Here you can find information – a colophon of sorts – about this website and the guy that runs it.
This is a one-man operation. I am employed at a healthcare organization in Knoxville, Tennessee; but I continue freelancing because the variety of work I get from freelancing helps keep things interesting; and I get to learn new things with almost every new project I take on. It's hard to beat that. Being busy probably helps to keep me out of trouble, as well.
I've been drawn towards creative pursuits since I was a child; first drawing and painting, then playing various instruments, and now I'm a graphic designer and hobby photographer. I guess it's just what I'm supposed to do. I graduated in 2005 with my degree in graphic design after having been employed as a designer unofficially since I graduated high school, after graduation I hit the ground running and have been going at it ever since.
I'm currently going back to school to get another degree, this time in web design, from a sister program to the one I graduated from previously.
I may not always be available for work, but I'm always willing to discuss things with a potential client. You may contact me here.
The font used in the headings is Misproject, one of the freeware fonts on misprintedtype.com, created by a Brazilian designer named Eduardo Recife. I don't know him personally, but I really enjoy his work.
The headlines are created using PHP and javascript in an image replacement method that I found in a really excellent article on A List Apart that was written by Stewart Rosenberger. This replaces whatever text one sets to be replaced by an image created dynamically in the php script with a font stored server-side. It helps keep things nice and accessible while retaining some control over how things look.
I'm pretty sure I'm the last person to have come across this method of displaying artwork on the web; but I think it's really slick. I figured out how to using code examples and instructions I found on Lokesh Dhakar's website.
All the examples of graphic design and photography you find on this site, including the design of the site itself, are copyright their respective owners (meaning me, except for the previous mentioned headline typeface and lightbox code); but if you find the code somehow helpful, if you're struggling with a table-less, accessible, fast layout style like I was, you're welcome to look at my code and, if it helps you, use it.
The creative "act" is a process, not a moment.
